Dyvik Kahlen Architects is a London based office established in 2010 by Christopher Dyvik and Max Kahlen, working across various scales and sectors in the UK, Holland, Germany and Norway. We collaborate with a wide range of clients including public cultural institutions, local councils, developers, artists, curators, private organisations and individuals.
We aspire to create spaces that are comfortable and strangely familiar, whether it’s a building, a furniture piece, a temporary installation or a masterplan. Underlying our work is a desire to improve the quality of life of those who inhabit it.
We are driven by a fascination for rational and neutral form, an underlying beauty and economy of means. We like to challenge preconceived notions of value and scale in order to confound and exceed expectations.
In parallel with our practice we continue our search for an architecture that transcends function as studio masters at ADS5, a Postgraduate Architecture Design Studio at The Royal College of Art, and we regularly contribute to the academic discourse as guest lecturers in London and abroad. We were recently shortlisted for the BD ‘Young Architect of the Year’ Award and have been featured in various publications including an interview with Frog Magazine #16, and the Architecture Foundation’s ‘New Architecture 3’, a survey of the best emerging architects in the UK selected by a jury of leading architects, critics and curators.
Porto Academy is the result of an enormous passion for architecture as a discipline. We admire the figures that dream about it, who build, study and promote it. We believe that practice - as an exercise of the architect’s profession - is central to the future of the discipline, and therefore one of the reasons why we’ve founded Porto Academy. For a week period, one lives the passion for the discipline of architecture and enjoys intellectual freedom.
