Created in 1937, the French Institute of Lisbon became the Franco-Portuguese Institute in 1984, and then the French Institute of Portugal (IFP) in 2011. Since the summer of 2015, its premises have been located at number 11, Rue Santos-o-Velho, in the Santos district of Lisbon. Beyond its mission to promote the French language and culture, the IFP is a prime location for Franco-Portuguese exchange and dialogue in the fields of education, research, and artistic creation.
