Balissat Kaçani is a practice for architecture working from Baden, Switzerland internationally on a variety of different programs, scales, public and private commissions. They foster a transdisciplinary approach through collaborations with engineers and sociologists alike that is based on the conviction, that physically experiancable architectural spaces are to the same extent material and structural artifacts as they are socio-cultural constructs that are not only produced by but also produce contemporary forms of appropriation.
The apprenticeship as a draughtsmen, their studies at ETH Zurich and their collaboration as project architects and project leaders for Made In and Christian Kerez has equipped them with the necessary know how to not only theoretically conceive spaces and typologies but to also constructively materialize them.
They have taught as academic assistants at the University of Applied Arts in Basel and as lecturers at the Institute for Architecture and Design and the Institute for the Theory and History of Architecture at ETH Zurich. Balissat Kaçani currently lead a design Studio and a lecture series on contemporary labour cultures and forms of living at the University of Applied Arts in Lucerne.
