Teatro Rivoli

It was inaugurated in 1913 as a National Theatre. In the following years, changes in the urban centre forced a reconsideration and update of the building and thus Teatro Rivoli came to be, in 1923 – refurbished, adapted as a movie theatre, with a programme of opera, dance, theatre and concerts. Architect and engineer Júlio Brito signed the project. In 1994 it was closed for a complete refurbishment, with a project by architect Pedro Ramalho. In October 1997, Rivoli reopened its doors. Presently, Rivoli hosts the national and international programme of Teatro Municipal do Porto with a particular focus on dance, theatre, music, puppetry, contemporary circus and film, along with some of the city’s main events.

Adalberto Dias

After colaborating 6 years with architect Álvaro Siza, Adalberto Dias opens his own office in 1977 and since then he has developed a diverse and international body of work involving cultural, residential, civic and religious projects, as well as masterplans and urban related projects, some of which were widely published and other´s awarded (Mies Van der Rohe Nominee 96, Iberfad Nominee 96, Secil Nominee 98 and I&III International Trienal of Sintra 92/98). Within the portfolio of public buildings, projects range from the most recent church renovations and extensions, such as São Francisco Rehabilitation and New Museum, to University facilities such as Mechanical Engineering Department and University Community and Residences (both in Aveiro) and the latest Science and technology Park for Oporto University and Facilities (which was recognized with the National Rehabilitation Prize 2015).
The office of Adalberto Dias has three major rehabilitation projects ongoing in Portugal – the renovation of Lisbon´s Cathedral Cloyster, a church in Tomar and a church in Monsaraz; and a 12 000sqm Hotel in Angola. Within the portfolio of masterplan and public space, the office has developed the rehabilitation of Viana do Castelo´s waterfront area, Oporto´s Center Requalification and infrastructural projects like Guindais Funicular and University Campos Metro Station.
The practice of Adalberto Dias follows the legacy of the known “Oporto School”, with a strong commitment for refining ideas and details, with a constructive tradition linked to vernacular knowledge and craftmanship, but also technologically advanced. Intellectually and geometrical coherent, the practice of Adalberto is defined by the haptic hability of using the sketch to conceive space and matter. With a clear mastery of the architecture scales and measures, the office has a range of projects that vary from object design to an entire city masterplan.

Caruso St John

Caruso St John Architects has two offices, in London and Zurich, with about forty staff in each. We have been in practice since 1990, developing a level of quality that has been widely recognised by awards and publication. We are winners of the Stirling Prize, and Adam Caruso and Peter St John are academicians of the Royal Academy.
We carry out a wide range of work, including commercial, residential, cultural and leisure buildings, and including new-build and renovation, and permanent and temporary commissions. We welcome this diversity – it helps to make each project distinctive, and for different projects to learn from each other.
We have a strong record of working in UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other historic locations. We have also demonstrated our ability to design confident new buildings on sites without recognised conservation value.
Our size gives us the capacity to handle large-scale commissions, while ensuring that our principals Adam Caruso and Peter St John can give close attention to each project. Adam and Peter both teach architecture, at ETH Zurich and London Metropolitan University. Their practice and their teaching benefit each other, bringing together the fresh thinking of students with the experience of a successful office.
We have a strong interest in contemporary art and have worked with leading artists such as Thomas Demand, Damien Hirst and Jeremy Deller. This interest enriches our architectural work, giving perspectives and insights into the physical qualities of buildings.

Diener Diener

The architectural office Diener & Diener pays close attention to the architectural history of the city and modernity as it develops new types of buildings. This has been evident since its first projects, the residential development in the heart of Kleinbasel and the residential buildings in the St-Alban-Tal, a historically sensitive Basel neighborhood on the banks of the Rhein.
As it continues to develop contemporary residential buildings, the office of Diener & Diener maintains its focus on this subject matter. The results of this focus can be seen in the projects they realized on the Java and KNSM Island in Amsterdam, the Basel Markthalle Tower, or the residential building of the Mustersiedlung Hadersdorf, Vienna.
Planning and design projects also include office and research buildings such as the Swiss Re headquarters on Zurich’s Mythenquai, the Baloîse Group in Basel, the Forum 3 on the Novartis Campus in Basel, as well as the laboratory building on the Novartis Campus in Shanghai.
When working on architectural projects in culturally sensitive contexts, Diener & Diener has sought to engage with artists such as Helmut Federle (Vienna) or Josef Felix Müller (St. Gallen). In their search for the unique expression of a specific location, the architects and artists would reciprocally seek to radically amplify the respective ideas of architecture and art: only where art becomes an inseparable element of the architectural design while maintaining its independence can art extend architecture.
Today, Diener & Diener employs 50 architects in Basel and Berlin from many different nations. Roger Diener established the office Diener & Diener Architects in 1980 with his father and just four years after joining the office Marcus Diener Architect, the office his father formed in Basel in 1942.
Roger Diener has led the office Diener & Diener with Terese Erngaard, Michael Roth, and Andreas Rüedi since 2011.

SPBR

SPBR, founded in 2003, represents the combination of practice and theoretical knowledge, works and words. In the realm of design, the office engages on different scales: houses and buildings. In the realm of words, it promotes a flourish of dialogues: publications, exhibitions, lectures, and studios. Through this method, the interweaving of works and words, SPBR continuously challenges the premises that support the language of architecture.
SPBR’s projects value structural conception, constructive solutions, economic viability, and mainly, the interaction with the city as the domain of architecture.
SPBR is committed to exploring a threshold of unrealized possibilities, searching meaningful designs, informed by previous experiences, the proper use of resources, respect for the heritage, and boldness regarding our legacy for the future.

With an approach that combines documentary rigor and artistic sensitivity, the studio works closely with architects, designers, and institutions, contributing to the communication and appreciation of their projects.

The practice of the studio is built on two main pillars: the observation of light as a structuring element of the image and the pursuit of visual narratives that go beyond mere documentation. Over the years, Ivo Tavares Studio has consolidated its presence in the national scene, with projects widely published in leading international magazines and platforms. Its work aims not only to promote contemporary architecture but also to expand its cultural reach, strengthening the visibility of Portuguese architectural production worldwide.

PANORAMAH!

With surfaces above 98% structural glass, minimalist windows are all about glazing. From an industrial point of view, more significant glass dimensions require larger tempering furnaces, smooth operability and technical performances impose precision and higher quality standards, often more demanding than defined by international glass processing norms.
To keep up with new challenges, panoramah! verticalized its industrial activity and integrated glass transformation in 2011. Continuously investing in its transformation capacity ever since, it became one of the largest glass transformers in Europe with a 9-metre furnace and the ability to process double- and triple-glazed units up to 29 sqm. This capacity has proved critical in different processes, mainly as glass progressively absorbs new functions, admits irregular and curved shapes or assumes various aesthetic requirements.
panoramah! is currently the only manufacturer of minimalist windows in the world that processes and manufactures the main components of its systems, having full control and accountability over the entire process. From design to manufacture and installation, we answer for the complete system, both glass and aluminium. We streamlined glass transformation, adaptation to the system and transportation to the job site, rendering an apparently risky and complex procedure into an everyday job.
Furthermore, with built experience in over 60 different countries and a strong network of more than 50 certified specialized partners, panoramah! is effectively present throughout the globe. Supported by our team, this network is composed by fully experienced technicians that ensure a constant presence at all stages, from glazing consulting to installation and long-term maintenance.
